Empowered by Motherhood: My Journey with Tech-Moms

Life sometimes feels like an unstoppable storm, leaving you scrambling to stay afloat. That’s exactly how I felt after being laid off under unexpected and challenging circumstances. That experience left me shaken. My confidence was shattered, a month later, I discovered I was pregnant. The excitement of expecting a baby was overshadowed by the uncertainty of finding a job and supporting my growing family.

Earlier that year, I applied to Tech-Moms but was waitlisted. Then, just when I needed it most, I received an email: I had been accepted into their first Tech-Moms in Color cohort. That email became the lifeline I needed to rebuild my confidence and move forward.

As I started the program, I wasn’t sure if I could manage it all—pregnancy, motherhood, new career goals, and a job hunt. But when I found out I was having a baby girl, I realized I needed to lead by example. I wanted to prove to myself and my kids that we can do hard things. Tech-Moms became the start of my transformative journey.

Tech-Moms became the foundation for my transformation. It wasn’t just about learning to code or build a website—it was about rebuilding my belief in myself. With every lesson, guest speaker’s story, and completed project, my confidence grew. Before I even finished the program, I landed a remote Marketing Manager role at a startup. It was a job that aligned with my skills and aspirations—something I wouldn’t have imagined achievable just months earlier.

But my journey didn’t stop there. Determined to keep growing, I joined Tech-Moms’ first Data Analytics course. This experience was a game-changer. I immersed myself in tools like SQL, Tableau, Power BI, and Excel, which were completely new to me. At first, I felt overwhelmed, but with every class, I grew more confident, tackling projects I once thought were beyond my ability. One of the most valuable lessons I learned was how to tell stories with data. I discovered the power of transforming raw numbers into actionable insights—a skill that has reshaped the way I think and approach challenges.

This program wasn’t easy, but I wasn’t alone. My incredible classmates, instructors, and TA's encouraged me every step of the way. I also had the privilege of meeting inspiring women guest speakers who shared their journeys, setbacks, and triumphs, proving that success is possible even when the odds feel stacked against you.

Now, as I prepare to graduate, I reflect on how far I’ve come. Our instructors poured their hearts into our success, ensuring we didn’t just learn the tools but understood how to apply them in real-world scenarios.

By the end of the program, I wasn’t just comfortable with data analysis—I was excited to integrate it into my career. Looking ahead, I aim to take what I’ve learned and launch a marketing firm driven by data-driven insights, and I aspire to earn an MBA. I want to show others—especially moms—that growth and ambition don’t have to take a backseat to motherhood. This journey has proven to me that the sky is truly the limit.

"As a Latina and immigrant, finding a sense of belonging has always been a challenge. Too often, I felt like I had to work twice as hard to find my place. Tech-Moms gave me more than skills—it gave me a community. Their motto,“Once a Tech Mom, always a Tech Mom,” resonates deeply because it’s true."

One of the most powerful moments of my journey came recently when I attended the graduation of a friend I had encouraged to join Tech-Moms. Watching her confidently present her work reminded me of my own path. At my graduation, I was five months pregnant. Returning now with my baby girl in my arms was a full-circle moment. It reminded me of how far I’ve come—and how much I have to give back.
